Welcome to the autumn edition of the Welsh Zero Carbon Hwb newsletter.
This edition includes insights, tools, and opportunities to support your work in creating low-carbon, high-quality homes across Wales. From the recent visit to the CHC One Big Conference to new resources like the housing data dashboard and water efficiency guide, there’s plenty to explore.
You’ll also find details on the next Housing Decarbonisation – Community of Practice sessions and an update on the Tai ar y Cyd partnership, which is helping shape the future of sustainable housing in Wales.
Explore your local housing data with the Hwb dashboard
This new dashboard helps local authorities explore detailed housing data from Energy Saving Trust’s home analytics, which includes over 100 variables for every home in Great Britain.
Access is currently limited to local authority users.
It gives address-level insights to support:
- Improving energy efficiency
- Reducing fuel poverty
- Moving towards net zero
The dashboard was developed by Energy Saving Trust with the Welsh Zero Carbon Hwb. The dashboard uses housing data for Welsh homes from sources like:
- Energy Saving Trust
- HM Land Registry
- Historic Wales
- Ordnance Survey
- Royal Mail
- Office for National Statistics (ONS)
- Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)
The main dataset is Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). Where data is missing, estimates are made using mapping and statistical models.
Data can be shared with partners and third parties for project work, but Energy Saving Trust must be informed.
To access the dashboard, users must sign a Home Analytics licence.
Welsh Zero Carbon Hwb attends CHC One Big Conference 2025
On Thursday 3 July, the Hwb team attended the Community Housing Cymru (CHC) One Big Conference in Llandrindod Wells. It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new colleagues from across the housing sector.
The theme of “Our Place” showed how important social housing is in building a fairer and more successful Wales. Alongside attending inspiring keynote and panel sessions, the Hwb ran two workshops to help shape its future direction.
The sessions showed that it’s still important to share useful ideas and ways of working across the sector. We worked together to find practical ways to improve teamwork and share knowledge.
Thanks to everyone who took part and shared their thoughts.
New guide on water efficiency and reuse in housing
The Good Homes Alliance, supported by the Welsh Zero Carbon Hwb, has launched a new guide – Water Efficiency and Reuse in Housing. Aimed at architects, planners, developers, and housing associations, it offers practical advice, case studies, and expert insights to help design homes that use water more wisely.
This is the second guide in the Designing for a Changing Climate series, following the popular 2023 shading guide. It’s part of a wider effort to improve housing design, influence policy, and support sustainable development.
Tai ar y Cyd: building better homes for Wales
Tai ar y Cyd is a partnership between social landlords, government, and industry experts working to tackle housing challenges in Wales. The project supports social landlords to build high-quality, low-carbon homes for the future.
It brings together 23 social landlords with a shared goal: creating affordable, sustainable homes using local timber and modern building methods. This helps cut carbon emissions, lower energy bills, and boost green skills across Wales.
